Fighting a Major Rat Infestation: Inside Eradicare's Commercial Warehouse Rodent Control Program

An established rat infestation at a Middle Tennessee warehouse called for more than routine service: 50+ interior trapping stations, a six-week mass trapping program, structural exclusion, and direct coordination with the facility's maintenance team.

The Challenge: A Serious Rat Infestation in an Active Warehouse

Rat infestations can quickly become a costly problem for warehouse operators. With large storage areas, frequent shipments, loading docks, and numerous structural openings, warehouses can provide rodents with opportunities to enter, hide, and reproduce.

When Eradicare Pest Management was brought in to address an established rat infestation at a Middle Tennessee warehouse, the situation required more than a routine pest control service.

The facility needed an aggressive rodent reduction program combined with long-term structural improvements to help prevent the problem from returning.

Our team developed a comprehensive strategy combining intensive trapping, expanded rodent monitoring, exterior bait stations, and coordinated exclusion work with the facility's maintenance department.

The Solution: An Aggressive, Multi-Layered Rodent Control Program

1. Installing More Than 50 Interior Rodent Stations

One of the first major steps involved installing more than 50 interior rodent trapping (IRT) stations throughout the warehouse.

These stations were strategically incorporated into the facility's rodent control program to help intercept and monitor rodent activity across the property.

Given the size and complexity of warehouse environments, having sufficient coverage is critical for identifying activity and maintaining an effective control program.

In addition to the interior stations, our team expanded the exterior rodent bait station network to help address rodent pressure around the building perimeter.

2. Launching a Six-Week Mass Trapping Program

Rather than relying exclusively on routine monthly or quarterly service visits, Eradicare implemented an intensive six-week mass trapping program.

During this initial phase, our technicians scheduled three visits per week to inspect, reset, and maintain rat snap traps throughout targeted areas of the facility.

This aggressive service schedule was designed to reduce the existing rodent population while allowing our team to closely monitor activity and adjust trapping locations as necessary.

The increased frequency also provided more opportunities to identify changes in rodent activity before transitioning toward a longer-term management strategy.

3. Sealing Rodent Entry and Exit Points

Trapping alone cannot provide lasting protection if rodents continue entering the building.

Our technicians began identifying and sealing accessible rodent entry and exit points using a combination of steel mesh and foam to reinforce vulnerable openings.

Additional improvements include the installation of door sweeps to reduce gaps beneath doors, which can provide easy access for rodents.

These exclusion efforts are an important part of reducing the facility's exposure to future infestations.

4. Coordinating With the Facility's Maintenance Department

Not every structural vulnerability can be addressed through routine pest control exclusion work.

Larger openings, damaged structural components, and certain building modifications require coordination with on-site maintenance personnel.

Eradicare has been working directly with the warehouse's head of maintenance to identify and address these larger gaps and openings.

This collaborative approach allows our technicians to focus on rodent control and targeted exclusion while the maintenance team handles larger structural corrections.

By combining pest management expertise with facility maintenance, both teams can work toward the same goal: reducing rodent activity and limiting opportunities for reinfestation.

Why This Approach Matters

Commercial warehouses present challenges that differ significantly from residential rodent infestations.

Large facilities often have multiple entry points, complex storage arrangements, and constant movement of goods and equipment.

A successful rodent management program must address the existing population while simultaneously reducing the conditions that allow rodents to enter and survive.

For this warehouse, our strategy incorporates:

  • More than 50 interior rodent trapping stations
  • Expanded exterior rodent bait station coverage
  • A six-week intensive trapping program with three visits per week
  • Strategic snap trapping and ongoing activity monitoring
  • Entry-point sealing using steel mesh and foam
  • Door sweep installation
  • Direct coordination with facility maintenance for larger structural openings

Rather than treating the infestation as a one-time problem, Eradicare is implementing a coordinated program designed for both immediate rodent reduction and long-term prevention.

Building a Long-Term Rodent Defense Strategy

The initial intensive trapping phase is only one component of the overall rodent management plan.

As the program progresses, continued monitoring, structural exclusion, and routine pest management will remain important for helping protect the facility.

Our objective is not simply to catch rats. It's to help warehouse operators reduce the risk of recurring infestations, protect inventory, and maintain cleaner, safer working environments.
